Club Championships Information

Our annual Club Champs will be held at Victoria Park Leisure Centre on the above dates.

About the Club Championships:
The Club Championships are open to all Ilkeston SC members only and is an ideal starting competition for everyone looking to compete in competitons.
The swimmers compete against other swimmers in their age group in a fun and friendly environment and is a good opportunity to socialise with their fellow teammates.
All swimmers are actively encouraged to compete and participate in as many events as possible. This helps the coaching team to monitor progress and also identifies the fastest swimmers which provides the basis for gala selections. Trophies are awarded to the fastest boy and girl in each age group, stroke and distance.
Ages are determined by age on the 31st December in the year of competition.
Age Groups and Distances:
- 7 yrs - 25m All Strokes, 50m Freestyle & Backstroke
- 8 yrs - 25m All Strokes, 50m Freestyle & Backstroke
- 9 yrs - 50m All Strokes, 100m Freestyle & Individual Medley
- 10 yrs - 50m All Strokes, 100m Freestyle & Individual Medley
- 11 yrs - 50m, 100m All Strokes & 100m Individual Medley
- 12 yrs - 50m, 100m All Strokes & 100m Individual Medley
- 13 yrs - 50m, 100m All Strokes & 100m Individual Medley
- 14 yrs - 50m, 100m All Strokes & 100m Individual Medley
- 15 yrs - 50m, 100m All Strokes & 100m Individual Medley
- 16+ yrs - 50m, 100m All Strokes & 100m Individual Medley
The Club Championships are only made possible thanks to the help and support of an army of volunteers. If you can help by giving your time in any way, this would be greatly appreciated. We will endeavour to share out the responsibilities so that everybody gets a chance to relax and cheer on their swimmers on at least one of the dates.
List of Roles and Responsibilities:
|Entry Door||2||Take spectator entry fees, distribute programmes and sell the raffle tickets|
|Bouncer||1||Register Officials when they arrive and prevent spectators entering through the changing area|
|Refreshments Runner||1||Provide all officials with refreshments throughout the event|
|Referee||2||The Referee is in overall control of all aspects of the meet and is responsible for health and safety as well as ensuring that the competition is fair. It is to the Referee that judges report observed infringements and who decides whether these will be accepted. This role requires experience.|
Checking the swimmers turns and finishes. Report an infringement if you see it to the Referee. The only person who can disqualify a swimmer is the Referee. The swimmer gets the benefit of doubt if you are unsure what you saw. This role requires knowledge of the rules relating to the turn and finish for each stroke.
Ensure that all stroke rules are complied with. Report observed infringements to the Referee who will disqualify the swimmer.
Writes the lane order of swimmers as they finish and passes these to the Referee. Also check that the finishes comply with the rules.
|Chief Timekeeper||2-3||Ensure the timekeepers perform their role. Collect the timekeepers slips from the timekeepers after each event and work out the finishing times for the swimmers based on the order of the finish in agreement with the referee.|
|Timekeeper||12||Record the time the swimmer takes to complete the race using a stopwatch. Average the time with the second timekeepers time and record it on the timekeepers slips.|
|Runner||2||Take the timekeepers slips and judges reports from the Referee to the Results table. Ensure that the timekeepers slips are taken from the swimmers to the timekeepers for all 25m races.|
|Starter||1||Ensure that the start is fair for all swimmers. Report False Starts and starts not complying with the rules to the Referee.|
|Girls Team Manager||2||Organise and ensure all girls get to lane end in time for their race with slips, goggles and hats if required. Ensure swimmers are aware of the stroke and distance they will be swimming.|
|Boys Team Manager||2||Organise and ensure all boys get to lane end in time for their race with slips, goggles and hats if required. Ensure swimmers are aware of the stroke and distance they will be swimming.|
|Announcer||1||Announce all information over the PA system including Emergency Procedures, Raffle Prize winners, Races and General Information.|
|Results Table||2||Input the results from the judges reports and timekeepers slips to the laptop.|
|Photographer||1||Only photos by the official photographer will be permitted. Sign the Pool and Club Photograph Permission documents. Check with membership secretary those swimmers who have not given consent for photos. During races, photograph swimmers who have given consent.|
