Leicester League Round 3

March 25th 2017

Congratulations to Team Ilkeston swimmers after racing to a successful promotion back to division one after last nights final held at Hinckley Leisure Centre. A significant achievement considering we had to withdraw from last years league, which meant we started back in division two. #HardWorkConquersEverything

The journey back in to division one started in January at Loughborough where we made a great start finishing first in the gala with 206 gala points, which placed us in the top three of the league table. Not a bad start considering it was just after the festive period.

Going into the second round at Oadby & Wigston earlier in March, the strong form continued. Even though we struggled with a depleted team due to illness and injuries, we still finished second on the night with 194 points. It did take us down one place to fourth in the league table, however we were in a position to race at the final later that month.

The third and the final round saw the top six battle it out for promotion to division one of the Leicester Winter League. Nene Valley, Hinckley, Wellingborough, Team Ilkeston, Long Eaton and Rushden. An extremely competitive final provided a lot of excitement, ups, downs and close battles throughout the events between all teams. To complete the evening the cannon once again proved to be at its best coasting to first place with fast 25 split times from all eight swimmers.

In total there were 16 – 1st places, 4 – 2nd places, and 8 – 3rd places. All points gathered accumulated to a total of 189 points on the evening placing us in 2nd.

Well done to all that took part in the individuals and relays over all three rounds as every swim and every point counts. Well done to Nene Valley who were promoted as Champions on the evening, also promoted as runners-up were Team Ilkeston, third was Hinckley, fourth was Wellingborough, fifth was Long Eaton, and sixth was Rushden.

That means that we have achieved a Club target of reaching a final and achieving promotion on the first time of asking back into the top division. Thanks on the night to our poolside team of team managers, coaches and officials.
